Frozen vegetarian meals or prepared sides: which fits your week?

Complete frozen vegetarian meals are useful when you want the whole dish decided and portioned. Prepared vegetable sides are useful when you already have a main you like and want help with the rest. Compare what each portion includes, how you’ll use it and the total delivered price.

Decide how much of dinner you want handled

If you want to open one package and have dinner, look for a complete meal whose ingredients and portion suit you. If you enjoy cooking a main but regularly skip the vegetables, a box of prepared sides may fit better. Some households will use both: complete meals for a solo lunch, generous sides for dinners together.

“Vegetarian,” “frozen” and “prepared” describe different things. Vegetarian describes the ingredients, frozen describes the storage format, and prepared describes some of the work already done. None of those words alone tells you whether a dish is a complete meal, its portion size, its protein content or its suitability for a particular health need.

Compare the formats side by side

Choose frozen food for the way you’ll use it

A freezer can make it easier to keep food on hand for a week that changes. But freezing does affect texture. University of Minnesota Extension explains that freezing changes plant cell structure, and that texture changes are often less noticeable in vegetables that will be cooked. A crunchy raw salad and a cooked vegetable base should not be expected to behave the same way after freezing. Read the Extension guidance ↗

For a prepared-food service, that makes the finished dish and its reheating method important. Ask whether the recipe has been tested after freezing and reheating. A photograph of a freshly cooked plate doesn’t answer that question. We’re testing the MōrVeg menu and delivery process before taking orders.

Do the portion math before the price comparison

Use the amount you expect to eat, not just the number printed on a box. A 24 oz pack provides four 6 oz side portions, or a different number if you portion it differently. A larger pack is useful only if you can store and use it as directed.

MōrVeg’s current launch targets are $79 delivered for three 24 oz packs and $134 delivered for six. That is about $6.58 or $5.58 per illustrative 6 oz side serving, respectively, before any applicable tax. Your main is an additional cost. These are prelaunch targets; final details will be confirmed before purchase.

Ask what happens at your doorstep

Before ordering frozen delivery, look for a clear delivery area, arrival-condition instructions, storage directions and a way to get help if something goes wrong. “Packed frozen” does not necessarily mean a service has validated arrival fully frozen on every route. The seller should tell you what to expect and how to assess your delivery.

Our initial plan is to pack MōrVeg frozen. Local delivery and wider shipping are being tested separately, and no delivery ZIPs are confirmed yet. We’ll share the final arrival, handling and storage instructions before you order. You can register interest now without making a payment.

Find the right amount of help

Choose a complete meal when you want the entire plate handled. Choose sides when you want more control over your main, portions or combinations. Either way, start with food you want to eat and practical information you can verify.
